As a part of this thinking, it is important that the management and leadership team of Infosys should be able to manage the people, polices and systems in the organization. You are selecting the Managing Director (MD) for TCT. Question 1: Rank order the candidates from high to low. Which candidate would you recommend to the selection committee? Why did you select that person? The ranking from high to low can be discussed as: Rank 1: Brett Harrison Rank 2: Atasi Das Rank 3: Tom Wallace Rank 4: Jalan Bukit Seng Rank 5: Ravi Desai Rank 6: Saumitra Chakraborty All the six candidates have strengths and weaknesses. I think that Brett Harrison is the best alternative for TCT. He is an experienced candidate that comes with domestic and international experience (Sullivan, 2015). The good thing with Brett is that he has travelled few times to India and he is aware of the business factors in India. 2: What challenges might the person you recommend encounter if named MD? How can TCT minimize those challenges? One of the challenges that Brett Harrison can face if named MD would be the cultural challenge. The business environment in India is not stable and the business environment is influenced by number of political and legal factors. It might take some time for Brett to understand the business environment completely. One of the other risks or challenges could be the social risks (Dimitrijevic, 2012). There is always a possibility that the employees would not support the new leadership of Brett. TCT can minimize these challenges with effective governance and change management. It is important that the leadership team of TCT should communicate the reasons of picking Brett to all the stakeholders. 3: Based on information provided in Chap.16 dealing with a matrix organizational structure, would you recommend two individuals to the same post, i.e., one person directing internal affairs the other managing external affairs? What are the pros/cons of such an arrangement? The idea of matrix organizational structure is very effective. However, I would not recommend two individuals in this case. The pros and cons of this approach (two person for same post) can be discussed as: Pros of having two people for same post: It could help in effective management of the organization, as the work would be divided across different teams. It would also help TCT to appoint the best individuals that can manage the internal affairs and external affairs. For example, TCT can appoint the person that has best knowledge of internal affairs as the internal affairs head and the person that has best international experience as the external affairs head (Otrok, 2012). Cons of having two people for same post: It could result in job dilution and the dilution of responsibility. It is important that TCT should have executive that is responsible and accountable for all the internal and the external affairs of the company.
